Texas Hold-Em

Texas Hold Em is one of the most popular poker games that you will find online.  There are particluarly good rooms, where you can play for (and win) good money at Ladbrooks and William Hill.

Each player is dealt two cards face down.  It is at this time that betting opens depending on the two “pocket cards” that each of you hold.

After betting is complete the dealer lays out the flop.  The flop is basically a several cards dealt face upwards in the middle of the table, they are used as community cards. The dealer will lay three cards into the flop and therefore your initial poker hand will consist of the three flop cards plus your personal cards.

There is a betting round, then another card is added to the flop.  More betting and finally a fifth card is added to the flop.  The goal is for each player to make the best 5 card hand possible based on his two pocket (personal) cards and any three cards in the flop.

Paradigm’s Tips

Don’t be scared to fold. One of the most intimidating parts of the game of poker is how much or indeed little you should bet. Eventually, you will develop a feel for the game and you will learn more about when to bet and when to fold.  As a general rule, if you have a nothing hand do not expect later cards to save you. Feel free to fold as frequently as you wish.

No Clues.  The whole point of the game is to give no clues to your opponents as to what sort of hand you are packing.  This is so important if you are to win any money at all.  Seasoned players know all the signs.  Be random!

Don’t Drink. When it comes to any sort of gambling, poker included - don’t drink and alcohol.  It gives you too much confidence and that can be an enemy.

Maintain Control. The best advice we can give you comes direct from Gamblers Anonymous - bet with your head, not over it!  Betting within your means will keep the game fun!
